Cloud OLAP

Cloud OLAP is the modern-day solution to generating interactive, multidimensional analytics on cloud data using BI and analytical tools. With rising data volumes, BI and analytical tools face performance issues while connecting directly to the massive data loads on the cloud. This makes it difficult for enterprises to create and process complex data models and achieve accurate answers to important business questions. This can also be a great hindrance to the success of cloud initiatives.

Enterprises need a solution to help them achieve the ability to conduct complex data modeling along with interactive analysis. Leveraging the power of Online Analytical Processing for the Cloud can make this dream come true for enterprises. Cloud OLAP uses a multidimensional approach to sort, arrange, and analyze data making it easy for enterprises to undertake complex data modeling. With cloud OLAP, data gets pre-aggregated into cubes. Once the cubes are created, business users can query their data and create reports using any BI tool and get lightning-fast query responses on cloud-level data.

Challenges with Cloud OLAP

Over the years, OLAP has been established as a sure-shot solution for high-speed multidimensional analytics. However, the scale and complexity of modern-day data create challenges for cloud OLAP:

  • Traditional OLAP technologies have limitations on the amount of data that can be processed. They struggle with scalability and face performance limitations while trying to handle massive data volumes, increasing cardinalities, and dimensions.
  • In-memory OLAP solutions are unable to meet the requirements of today’s business. They can deliver performance for known or warm queries, but when new questions are asked, response times increase drastically, even with pre-aggregation.
  • Traditional OLAP solutions are also unable to handle complex data scenarios due to restrictions on the underlying multidimensional data models.
  • Many traditional OLAP solutions also suffer the inability to migrate existing OLAP models to the cloud, making cloud OLAP impossible.

To defeat these challenges, enterprises need a next-generation OLAP technology, designed for the cloud, that can leverage the flexibility and scalability of the cloud environment and build a high-performing cloud business intelligence platform that breaks all performance barriers. Kyvos’ Smart OLAPTM Technology does exactly that and much more. Explore more here.
